Robert Summers Potterton III (b. 1986) has been a professional musician for over a decade, pursuing activity in composition, arrangement, conducting, and performance both independently and for clients around the world. A member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers with a catalogue of over two hundred works, his music has spanned numerous styles and forms.His teachers have included Judy Congdon (organ/harpsichord), Mark HIjleh (composition), Sun Mi Ro (composition and orchestration), and Peter Sykes (organ).
Throughout high school, he maintained a busy performance schedule, frequently playing for several church services weekly in addition to concerts and recitals. In 2005, he was awarded the Service Playing Certificate from the American Guild of Organists, and two years later was made one of the youngest chapter deans in the history of the organization.
Robert holds the Bachelor of Music degree in Composition & Organ Performance from Houghton College (receiving highest marks in both his senior recitals), and a Master of Sacred Music degree from Boston University, where he is currently pursuing the Master of Sacred Theology degree. He serves as Director of Worship Arts at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Dedham, Massachusetts and as a member of the Worship Committee for the New England District, Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He resides south of Boston with his wife, Carissa.
